BEST BOOKS TO READ ON A WINTER AFTERNOON

I always dream of a cozy sunny winter afternoon in the company of a book and a warm cup of tea. But as we all know that No company is better than Bad company so I don’t want to waste my patience and time by reading bad books. And I guess that even you feel the same. As the winter has almost arrived so I have already started to sort some books for the season and I can share my list with you too!

So the first one which I have already started reading is:

THE CAGED VIRGIN

Written by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the book tries to bring out the position of woman in context of Islam while comparing the overall development of West and Islamic States. The caged virgin is an attempt of bringing out the attention of not only Islam practitioners but the women as a whole on the subjugation of women in the name of honour and false pride. Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s The Caged Virgin: A Muslim Woman's Cry for Reason, is a 2004 book by the former Dutch parliamentarian Ayaan Hirsi Ali was first published in English in 2006.

THE ART OF WAR SUN TZU

The Art of War is attributed to the ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu and is composed of 13 chapters. The book deals with aspects of warfare and how it influences military strategy and tactics. The Art of War till date remains the most influential strategy text in East Asian warfare and has influenced both Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy, lifestyles and beyond.

HOME

We all have been at home since months, and sometimes, the outside world appears haunting. I bumped into the novel, Home during my prolonged stay at home by Toni Morrison which revolves around the story of Frank Money, a 24-year-old African-American veteran of the Korean War, and his journey home "a year after being discharged from an integrated Army into a segregated homeland. This one could be an interesting read especially for the ones who were stuck in a distant land during Covid-19.

WHITE FANG

A book by Jack London, White Fang is written from the viewpoint of the titular canine character, enabling London to explore how animals view their world and how they view humans. White Fang tries to draw a comparison between the violent world of wild animals and the equally violent world of humans along with exploring the complex themes including morality and redemption.

THREE SISTERS

Written in 1900, Three Sisters is a play by the Russian author and playwright Anton Chekhov. It was first performed in 1901 at the Moscow Art Theatre. The play is touted amongst Chekhov's outstanding plays, along with The Cherry Orchard, The Seagull and Uncle Vanya. If you have any interest in reading plays, then Anton Chekov is probably one of the best writers to read.
