Met Gala is an annual event that is a fundraiser for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York. Every year, this event ends up raising funds in around eight figures.
Met Gala’s theme for this year was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. Mostly all the celebrities put in effort when it came to being creative, but Rihanna showed everyone who the queen was once again. Rihanna dared to show up dressed as an actual pope. She sported a white beaded Margiela corset mini dress under a full skirt, with a beaded bishop’s hat on top. To accessorize this fearless outfit she went ahead with a pearl anklet and a bejeweled crucifix necklace. It is the first time that Rihanna has wore something designed by Margiela, and we can be assured that she won all our hearts by making RiRi a female pope. Rihanna also wore Christian Louboutin heels coupled with hoop earrings by Maria Tash. Even though she has been the queen of the past Met Galas, this was the first one where she co-hosted the event along with Amal Clooney. All the fans were drooling over Rihanna’s ensemble. RiRi has been winning Met Ball back to back, and we can’t just get enough. Just like Rihanna won last year’s met ball, she won this year’s Met Ball as well. Can’t wait to see what the queen has planned for next year!
Last year, the Met Gala focused on honoring the Comme des Garçons designer. Riri paid her tribute well by adorning an avant-garde Rei Kawakubo look.
In 2015, the theme was China: Through The Looking Glass and Rihanna once again stole the event in an ornate, yellow fur-trimmed robe by Chinese couturier Guo Pei. Geu Pei gained a lot of fame post that gala.
