Meghna Gulzar’s film, Chhapaak starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey is all in the buzz ever since it got announced. Recently, the film has finally received a U certificate from the censor board without any cuts.

The film is based on the real-life of an acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal. Deepika will be seen playing her role as Malti and, will showcase the struggle and pain she goes to fight for justice. Actor, Vikrant Massey will play the role of Amol inspired by Alok Dixit who is a social activist and also, Laxmi’s life partner.

On having obtained the Universal certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, director Meghna Gulzar feels to have achieved immense validation for the film which would otherwise be perceived as difficult and graphic because of its storyline. Now, this certificate will allow the audiences of all ages to see the film and, also will spread the social message globally. Meghna’s previous movies like Raazi and Talvar, have also been passed without a cut.

"This validation by the CBFC, that everyone should be able to see this film, is a valuable encouragement for Chhapaak," the filmmaker said in a statement.

Deepika had to put on prosthetics to transform into an acid attack survivor, but Meghna said there was never a plan to tone down the film.

"However, from the onset, me and the entire team decided that Chhapaak must be a visually aesthetic experience otherwise it will undo the purpose of making this film.

"So we tread a very fine balance between not sugarcoating the reality and yet making it palatable for the viewers. And that’s the sensibility we all followed," the director added. Chhapaak is slated to release on January 10, 2020.
