Recently the veteran actress Shabana Azmi’s mother, Shaukat Kaifi left for her heavenly abode due to cardiac arrest. In her last rites, entire B-Town celebs including Rishi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Prateik Babbar, Sanjay Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Tabu, Rekha and many more came to offer prayers.
As per the sources Shaukat was not keeping well for the past few months. She took her last breath at the age of 93. This sad news was confirmed by Kaifi's son-in-law, veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar.
"She was 93 and she was having one problem after another. She was admitted to Kokikaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital, for certain days she was in the ICU and then she was out of ICU. It was all age-related,"
Javed Akhtar said.
"Ultimately they brought her home. She wanted to come back to her own room, she stayed for a day or two and then passed away. Shabana is in Mumbai," Akhtar added.
Shaukat Kaifi was married to late Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi and, was known for her work in Bollywood classics like 'Umrao Jaan', 'Salaam Bombay', 'Heer Ranjha'. Her last film was Shaadi Ali's "Saathiya".
After Kaifi Azmi's demise in 2002, Shaukat wrote an autobiography, "Kaifi and I" which premiered in Mumbai in 2006 on the fourth death anniversary of Kaifi Azmi. It was performed by Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar.
