This year’s much-awaited film starring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, got off to a rather rocky start. 'Zero' managed to earn a total of around Rs 38 crore by the second day.
The Aanand L Rai directorial received mixed reviews from the audience and critics. Taran Adarsh, a trade analyst, and film critic tweeted that the opening weekend would be extremely crucial for the film's business. He wrote, “#Zero has underperformed on Day 1, despite extensive release [4380 screens] + #Christmas vacations… Sat and Sun biz extremely crucial… Fri ? 20.14 cr. India biz.”
Despite the hype around the film and a well-planned promotion strategy of Shah Rukh’s Bauua Singh’s character, the movie has failed to make an impact on the audience.
Terming it preposterous drivel, Shubhra Gupta, the Indian Express film critic wrote, “In the beginning, you relate, because you see Bauua the ‘bauna’ having a tough time finding his groove, always tussling with mum (Chaddha) and dad (Dhulia). You relate too when Bauua show flashes of rage at his situation, and lashes out at people. But all too soon, the film abandons its minimal air of rootedness, and flees towards preposterousness.” Gupta has given just one out of five stars to the film.
Adding to the misery, the romantic drama has also been leaked online by an infamous illegal torrent website Tamilrockers. The weekend is expected to save the film and bring in some good numbers at the box office.
