By earning Rs 23.26 Cr, Batti Gul Meter Chalu Wins the Weekend Round Against Manto

The film Batti Gul Meter Chalu by Shree Narayan Singh witnessed a decent opening at the box office. On day 1, the film starring Shahid Kapoor, Yami Gautam, Shraddha Kapoor earned about Rs Rs 6.76 crore. However, on the second day, a considerable amount of growth was seen in the film. It collected around Rs 7.96 crore on the second day itself.

The film got a blow on Sunday as it delivered a performance which was below expectations. The film failed to earn in double digits and only earned Rs 8.54 crore. Taran Adarsh, a film trade analyst recently tweeted that “Batti Gul Meter Chalu needed a great growth on 3rd Day that is in double digits, for a respectable weekend total, which it clearly didn’t achieve.
Tweeting Sunday box-office figures, Adarsh wrote: “Batti Gul Meter Chalu did grow over the weekend, but the jump in biz wasn't substantial enough... Biz on Day 3 was affected due to the crucial cricket match, but the trending is dull... Weekdays are crucial... Fri 6.76 cr, Sat 7.96 cr, Sun 8.54 cr. Total: Rs 23.26 Cr. India biz.” (sic)

Meanwhile, Manto starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui experienced a slow weekend as it managed to earn only Rs 1.95 crore at the box office. The film opened up with about Rs 45 lakhs on day 1 while earning just Rs 70 lakhs on its second day.
