Kalki Koechlin talks about the film industry's obsession with beauty

In an exclusive interview with Cosmopolitan India, Kalki opened up about the film industry and its obsession with beauty. Kalki Koechlin has been one of the most famous actresses in Bollywood when we talk about powerful performances. Even though one could term her looks to be unconventional, she has definitely carved a mark for herself in the industry. "For me, it has a lot to do with personality. There were a lot of pretty women in cinema around Audrey Hepburn's time, but she stood out because she had a very interesting personality - which went beyond her looks. She did so much for women, for animal rights, for children's education - it's always the personality that comes through and makes one seem beautiful," she quipped while emphasizing on beauty not being just skin-deep.

"There are so many women who are conventionally beautiful - or men too for that matter (let's not leave them out!) - but we don't remember them. But the ones who stand out might not be the most beautiful, you know. I think it's what's inside that makes you beautiful on the outside," Kalki added.

Surprisingly, many people have advised Kalki to go under the knife so as to conform to the general standards of beauty. "You wouldn't believe how many people have told me that I need to fix my teeth, or that I need to restructure my jawline. One producer recently told me that I need to get Botox for my laughter lines-so I'm trying not to laugh so much anymore," she said.

"I think the glamour industry, all over the world, does portray a version that is 'Photoshopped' - a picture that is not very realistic," Kalki added while talking about the industry's unrealistic expectations.
