Coming from a chawl in South Mumbai, the actor Jackie Shroff who ruled the screen in the 90's, stated that he aspired to be a flight attendant or a chef before he became an actor but sadly no one took him.
He said that he knew he became a famous and successful movie star when megastar, Amitabh Bachchan's kid ran up to him and asked him for his autograph. Although, he never imagined himself as an actor since his father was just an astrologer in a chawl.
His father used to say that fate has planned big things for Jackie. Jackie said, "My father said that I will be an actor but I scoffed at him. I wondered, 'How can a boy from Teen Batti (Mumbai) become an actor?'''
He then went to a hotel to become a chef and later tried to become a flight attendant but sadly got declined both the times. Fate really had something else planned for him. The actor said, “I then worked in a travel agency and got into advertising and modelling after someone spotted me. So I started doing ads. I did 'Charminar' ad, because of which I got two films. Dev Anand saab gave me my first film and then I got Hero.”
According the to actor, he never had anything to lose in the first place. He stated, “I used to live in Teen Batti. We used to have a queue for the washroom, what did we have? A cot, that too for 'aai-baba'. We slept on the floor. So what came to me, has been more than enough."
Jackie Shroff would be seen in his upcoming movie 'Phamous' which is set to be released on June 1. Jackie Shroff said, “"I was bowled over by my character and the way Karan (director) saw me in the film. I can work with both the old, revered filmmakers and new directors. It is amazing how they see me in their world and then I adapt accordingly."
